Testimonial from Longstanding Gr Supporter Edward Landis/Floral Star Records (IFS)

"I first became aware of Grim in 2017. They were still relatively small at the time, but the seeds of something greater were already there. Already they were bringing people together for the Friends For Equality series. I still have the zine sitting right here on my desk. Flipping through the pages reveals a wealth of artistic talent coming together for a common cause. It even came with a personal touch in the form of a handwritten note. This is the kind of community building that would eventually lead to the creation of Grimalkin Records.

Watching the growth of the label over the subsequent years has been an absolute joy to behold. I was fortunate enough to get my hands on some of the first tapes put out by the label and the roster has only grown more diverse ever since. From horrorcore hip-hop to black metal, Grimalkin has grown in ways I never could have imagined. This diversity isn’t just limited to the musical styles put out by the label either. The artists themselves are part of what is perhaps one of the most diverse lineups currently out there today. There is so much racism and homophobia in America today. Laws being passed trying to legislate trans folk out of existence. It can be too much to take in at times. That is why I am so grateful for the spaces created by Grimalkin, both physically and digitally. So much talent that would otherwise be overlooked has found a place to thrive. The future can be scary, but there are still cool people putting out good into the world. I, for one, can not wait to see what comes next."

Edward Landis (he/they) has been a collector and enjoyer of music since a very young age. While on unemployment in 2010, he started a website to release music on called Interplanetary Floral Star Records. IFS Records still exists in a diminished form as a Twitter account. Still an avid lover of recorded music, he will occasionally tweet his thoughts and opinions there.
