Our Mission

Our mission at Grimalkin is to mentor and support trans and queer musicians, particularly BIPOC and disabled artists, using an artist-centered holistic approach to break down barriers, create new systems and structures of support, and expand the reach of marginalized voices.

Grimalkin is transforming the music industry, our world, and documented history with artist-centered structures of support through education, mentoring and production services provided through our ever-growing international network of trans, queer, BIPOC, disabled, and neurodiverse creatives.

We provide trans, queer, BIPOC, disabled, and neurodiverse artists support and access towards living authentic, healthy and fulfilling lives through partnerships and connections with other individuals, collectives, organizations, and nonprofits. See a list of organizations we’ve supported here.

We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit designated as a public charity 509(a)(2).

Our Vision

We envision a world where dedicated artists, especially marginalized artists, can make a living wage and have access to resources that allow them to lead healthy and fulfilling lives. We are creating new systems of support in an effort to set an example for new standards in music and art. View artists we’ve supported here.

A note on language: we respect the right of all individuals to claim language that is meaningful for their identities. Many of us at Grimalkin, including our executive director, board and collective members choose to use identity-first language to describe ourselves, and when speaking about people we don’t know, we will default to using identity-first language unless/until a person lets us know they use different language to describe themselves.

We encourage musicians of all ages to join us and to submit their music. Most labels tend to release younger artists, and while we love to support that age group, we do actively want to support artists of all ages.

Grimalkin Records stands against racism, sexism, ableism, ageism, transphobia, homophobia, and xenophobia; we are continuously committed to critically assessing our actions, beliefs, and goals collectively and as individuals to ensure that we operate in alignment with what we believe in. To that end, a non-exhaustive list of our general values is as follows:

  • Valuing and centering marginalized people’s voices

  • Mutual aid, non-hierarchical organizing, and supporting other mutual aid organizations

  • Fostering relationships with people involved in various sects of the music industry

  • Not exploiting artists

  • Building our international BIPOC perspective

  • Creating a more accessible world

  • Making music and art as a vehicle for positive change and as a way to document stories, experiences, and history for marginalized people.

  • Community care (music related or otherwise)- including but not limited to

o Encouraging others to be involved in their community

o Self reflection, self improvement, and educating one’s self for the greater good of the community

o Paying reparations to BIPOC

o Skill and resource sharing

o Actively being in service to one’s own community

o Supporting artists of all ages
